Pig out @ Jagoya

Jagoya oh Jagoya...familiar? I'm sure all of you have heard that it is one of the most expensive Japanese Buffet in town which charges you up to RM 90-RM100/person. I have heard and read on other bloggers' review on it. Mostly giving this restaurant a thumbs up. I always wanted to try it out and even bugged my bf to take me there...He just say, "Honey, it's too expensive and i rather take you to some local hideaway or rent a good hotel and enjoy room service!". Anyway, he is not much of a sushi or sashimi person, so i could understand why Japanese buffet doesn't appeal to him.

However, my lady luck shine on me when my good friend, Chai sms me about the their 50% percent promotion for LADIES only. Sorry, guys have to pay full price!! I know it's unfair but if they let the guys have the 50%, they know they will lose money. Cos seriously, how much can a women eat?? So at the end of the day, we women will HARDLY recover our money...

Just yesterday (Wednesday), we manage to get our booking for 4 person at 9.30pm -1am. The dinner time was all fully booked. The promotion was for a week and surprisingly it's all been taken up....As my friend made a sexist joke saying that the women in Malaysia is getting fat this December cos of Jagoya buffet, Christmas eating parties and the 31 % off for Baskin Robbin on New Year!

It was definitely an exciting moment for me when I arrived at the restaurant as my stomach was growling for food! It was already 9.30pm and we still had to wait in lines to get a table despite booking earlier. There were tons of "walk-in" trying their luck. Just look at the lines!

Jagoya Experience009

I was actually getting kinda annoyed cos we actually had to wait in line for 20 minutes before allowing us to enter. There were even a signage that they put there, saying " Proper Manner To Follow while Dining @ Jagoya":

1.) Please "q" even for those that made the reservation
2.) Please pay cash before dining
3.) Please allow our waiter to sit you at your place.

Finally, after getting in...i have to admit that the decor was impressive and very cozy indeed. Then we were given this metal clips in which according to my friend is suppose to be thrown over to food counter you wanted. And the chef will cook it and serve it to you. What a brilliant idea...I guess that's what made it different from other's Japanese buffet restaurant.

Jagoya Experience023
Look at their decor...must say it was systematic

Jagoya Experience028
Mountains of food...This was the Western section. Wonder why they use red light. It was kinda difficult to see what food it was and to know whether it is delicious or not....Bad concept....

Jagoya Experience024
You see those small white bowls? That's where you suppose to throw your numbered clips into it. The chef will cook on whatever you order and serve it at your table! Cool huh...

Jagoya Experience027
This is the "Dim Sum" section....

Jagoya Experience031
Look how delicious the sushi is...Ahem by look ah...But actually it was better than normal Sushi place but nothing to shout about that is a"WOW" factor.

Jagoya Experience029
Eddie loves eating the crab....He couldnt get enough of it..

Jagoya Experience021
Us pigging in!!! Look at how greedy we were...there were so many food left and yet we still continue to dive in to take more food! People..think of Africa...(Ahemm....)

Jagoya Experience037
Chai, my friend feeling really unhappy cos the "vegetable" that she ordered and waited for nearly half an hour turned out to be an "Extremely" small portion. Poor thing...

Though, we enjoyed pigging out and indulging in their "Unlimited" Haagen Daz and Baskin Robbins ice-cream(Me of course i only digged into Haagen Daz cos you can always get those 31% discount for Baskin Robbins right?), the food to me is nothing to shout about. Sure they have the normal Japanese food like Sashimi, Sushi, Tempura and etc...and they even have mix of Western& Chinese cuisine like Pasta, Steak and Dim Sum but nothing that i can say, "I'll definitely come back for this again" dish! I guess why people go there is actually attracted to their layout of the place, the concept (E.g. the metal clip of ordering food) and a wide variety of food. So, we are basically sucker of this concept. But to normal Japanese food, they would never step into it. Their Sashimi was not fresh nor was the oyster. To me, it;s just plain "OVERRATED"

After having such a big meal in which the clock ticked at 12.30AM, we had be chased out cos it was closing time. And on the way to our car park, I couldn't help but took the picture of the STUPID concept of signage marking on each floors in Starhill. I think this people behind this wanted their shopping mall to be "different" or high class cos their signage it's hard to understand. Who in the right mind would label each floor like, " Relish, Indulge, Adorn, Muse, Pamper, Feast and Explore"?? It doesn't even relate to the floor we are going to. For example, if you want to go to our "normal" terms of Ground floor...well in Starhill there are known as Indulge!! Anybody have a clue how to link that?? All of us took minutes to figure out which button to press and true enough we found another old couple looking puzzle at the buttons before pressing it. If i were to give an award to "THE MOST SILLY SHOPPING MALL"....Tadaaa.... "Starhill" would have win hands down!
Jagoya Experience003
The Confusing button....

Jagoya Experience002
The Relish Sign where the Jagoya Restaurant is located!! Any connection anyone???

Jagoya Experience008
Indulge sign where the "ground" floor is suppose to be....

My Verdict:
Ambience: 3.5 out of 5 sushi

Food: 3 out of 5 sushi

Staff Efficiency: 4 out 5 sushi. They are quick to clean up your plates.

Possibility of return: 0 unless they have another 50% discount promotion.

Ratings: Over-rated

Finally a Puzzle for all my fellow readers....please guess below...

Jagoya Experience038
Guess....number 1

Jagoya Experience043
Another clue for you guys....

I shall review the picture next week.....Let's just see how many intelligence earthlings out there yeah....

Me@ Big Big Bowl

After the "Night out" , i was extremely exhausted the next day. Slept till 10AM...I wanted to continue my beauty sleep but my stomach was growling with hunger! I was struggling between my tasty breakfast or the prince charming in my dreams....Alas, my hunger "overpowered" my prince charming! Upon opening my eyes, my phone rang with Sam on the other line asking me to go for breakfast....Definitely was my answer! This time, we went to try out this new noodle place in Kepong (yep i stay in Kepong....no it's not a gangster place). It's called "BIG BIG Bowl. Apparently, it is opened by my high school friend, Angie in which i have not seen in years after SPM!

Chai & ME031
This is where we had our breakfast/lunch.....Green=healthy? Clever to associate this cos healthy people sure come to this place. HAhahaha...Luckily the green paint was not too "gordy"...

Chai & ME029
Very nice decor....uses alot of green and bamboo decor...Cosy and nice place to eat.

Chai & ME028
This was what i ordered. It was a mixed of veggie with "seven veggie noodle" and "Lui Cha" soup. Very healthy indeed....HAhahaha....And good for toilet!!Yummmy...Not recommended to thos veggie hater....or those who do not like "Hakka Lui Cha". It taste exactly the same except this one uses the noodle and the other one is with rice. The Lui Cha from "BIG BIG BOWL" is really thick and tasty. You could really taste the grinded vege.

Chai & ME030
Sam ordered just the Ice kacang drink...It was on promotion that day, RM 3.00. Apparently, if it' not promo, it would cost you RM6.00

Overall, verdict on this restaurant:
Environment: 4 out of 5
Food: 3.5 out 5 (alot of varities in their noodle and soup)
Drink: 2 out 5 (wasn't that good. And we wanted to order their "Leung Cha" but was out of it)
Service: 4 out 5 (friendly staff)

Anyway, give it a try, it's located @ No 31, Jln MetroPerdana Barat 2, Tmn Usahawan Kepong. Tel:012-2115564 (Angie Lim)

Vampy's Great Discovery!!

Hi all...thought of sharing with you my favorite dessert other than my love for cheesecake. Alot of you Malaysian who love egg tarts will surely know of the the name " Tong Kee" tarts. Well, they have no doubt created a great name for themselves and position as the best of egg tarts. Me and my friends thought so too. We would drive all the way to Sri Petaling just to have that 2 bites of tarts. But recently, i discovered another place in which the egg tarts is way better than "Tong Kee". The shop name is called "H.K Miu Kai" It is a little bit more expensive. Tong Kee cost your RM 1.10/pc and H.K Miu Kai cost about RM 1.60/pc. But it is worth every penny of your money. It is richer and softer than "Tong Kee" . Once you bite into the tarts, the egg practically melt into your mouth! No exaggeration here ok. So far all my friends, clients and even supplier that i introduced to try this have given VERY good feedback about it! Where can you find this place? Well, my friend, unfortunately you can only get this savory tarts at Sri Petaling, behind "Tong Kee" and next to a Middle East restaurant called "Al-Diafah". And recently they opened one in Kepong, along the road of HSBC, opposite of Carrefour.

This is the pastry chef in charge of all the egg tarts, "po lo" pau and "Char siu so" and etc.....

This are the hot delicious egg tarts after being baked in the oven

Ta da.... This is the close up shots of how it looks like hot from the oven. Doesn't it look yummy...Highly recommended...MUST try!! Best to eat instantly when it is still hot....

The staff busy applying the sesame on the "Char Siew So"( Pork pastry...hope i translated correctly...) This is another one of their famous pastry. Also highly recommended. Once taste you will never forget!! HAhahaha....Cost around RM1.90/pc

Ta da....my close- up photo of how it looks like...Isn't it yummy.....This one can be kept over night. So it does make a great gift to your far far away friends/relatives who happen to come to K.L to visit you.

Just have a look out for this signage " Hong Kong Miu Kai" . Oh yeah the girl pastry chef on top told me her master was from Hong Kong who also own part of the restaurant. So the food and pastry is top notch recipe from Hong Kong itself. Feel free to drop in to have a try...Oh and another MUST try pastry is their "Ham Tan PO LO" pau (Salty egg). Unfortunately i was not able to capture the photo here cos' they haven't made it when i was there. They open only at 11am. But you got to buy it as early as possible cos the 3 items are the most hot selling. Usually by 6pm, most of their hot selling pastries are gone.

Vampy's Favorite Cheesecake....

Nothing melts better than a rich, creamy and deliciously mouthwatering cheesecake, don’t you agree? Well, of course that is solely my own personal preference towards cheesecake. Of course there are people out there (I called em;’ “outcast”) who dislike anything with cheese. The thought of cheesecake just freaks them out! I have a friend who couldn’t care more for cheese/milk. The sight and smell or even the tiny thought of it made her puke! Yes it is that extreme…… Imagine, it took her years to finally bought her first yoghurt, and that my friend is not even the pure yoghurt. It’s more like a drink with thousand of other “mixes” that lessen the milky taste. No matter how I beg or tempt her to the ‘dark side’, she just wouldn’t budge!

To those Extreme Cheese-hater, I gave up trying to convince you. But, to those who are open, you have to try this cheesecake found in Singapore called N.Y. D.C For cheesecake lover, this is a must and not a “to-be-missed” events in your calendar! Some of my friends even labeled me as an obsessive-compulsive N.Y.D.C lover! Every time, one of them makes a trip down to Singapore, I would pester and remind them to eat the cheesecake there. They even made a joke of sending the entire cheesecake by courier….Hahaha…But, hey I don’t mind as long as it still tastes good right?

I will guarantee you that once you try this soft, and creamy cheesecake, you will never look back and will crave for more and more….. It’s like an addiction that is hard to kick off. And the next time you sit down at the Secret Recipe (no offense), I can bet you would compare the taste of it! You might ask, do they pay me to promote so strongly for them? Well, hell no I don’t get a single cent, nadah… zip!I just want to share with you my great experience there. Besides, it’s a cool place to hang out as the ambience is suitable to have our daily gossips/group meetings and tea-breaks. It’s sort of like a fusion of Chilli’s and Starbucks environment. Yes, they do serve great western food like their pasta, pizzas and burgers. Oh and for non-cheesecake lover, you are in luck, cos’ they do have other desserts. And the “killer” dessert I would recommend is their heart-melting Mudpies top with ice-cream.

Yummy…however, I must admit that best brownies & mudpies I have tasted so far are actually at the very heart of KL itself. It is non other that our Chilli’s “Molten Chocolate”,T.G.I Fridays “Mudpies” and last but not least Outback Steakhouse “Chocolate Thunder From Down Under” (made our of pecan brownie topped with rich vanilla ice-cream and hot homemade chocolate sauce, whipped cream and chocolate shavings.) . Many of you might not hear of the Outback Steakhouse’s dessert… but I could assure you that once you tried it, you will definitely call for 2nd serving!

Of course my love for Chilli’s “Molten Chocolate” cake is always my first choice! I would go to the extend of pretending to be either my birthday/ my friend’s birthday just to get a free cake! (Girls and boys, please do not try this at home…. Hahahaha… ) Who can say no to this? Well, as the saying goes, “we always have a little room for dessert ain’t it?” Well, this statement probably applies to most of the women. Men can do with and without this god-forbidden dessert! They rather indulge in their beers! Let’s just put it this way, women have sweeter tooth than the men. That’s why we are sweeter and nicer. Ha! Oh oh, better stop my “sexist” comment now cos’ I have a bunch of male counterparts who is reading this right at this moment and will probably go on strike!

Vampy's PIzza Hut Experience!

Today I had my experience of doing a take-away from Pizza Hut after a long long time. The last time I did my take away from Pizza Hut was back at my high school days. I still remember their famous “delivery songs” –7552525, which surprisingly is still stuck in my head. But after Dominoes and the rest of the Pizza parlor like 2 in 1 Canadian Pizza came into the picture, I sort of have other options of not eating Pizza Hut.

I used to remember dialing their number and waiting for the delivery. At the sound of my doorbell, I would rush out like a sprinter to greet the delivery man. I couldn’t wait to pay him and bite into the hot delicious pizza. I also remember opening the brown pizza box and the aroma was so tantalizing and alluring. As if it was alive and could speak to me, “Eat me Eat me!”. Oh and how I remember me and my sis would gather around the table like small children waiting for their Christmas present to be opened. Hahaaha… it’s no joke cos that was truly how we felt about Pizza Hut back then.

However, one of the thing that made me stop calling for their delivery was their timing. They were always late and made you wait for an hour to get your pizza! By then you probably would have die of hunger. Before Dominoes took Malaysia by storm with their tagline of 30min delivery, Pizza hut used to take their own sweet time to get the pizzas to us. It was really a nuisance having to your stomach grumbling on this side and your pizza is still miles away from you! After awhile, you wouldn’t even think of calling them to deliver cos it’ll be faster for you to walk to the nearest outlet and get your pizza!

Anyway, today I had a chance to pay my visit to Pizza Hut again at Sri Petaling ( I was actually forced by my business partners cos they simply had a sudden cravings for pizza!.) And so I have no choice but to obliged to their demands and took a detoured. The moment I stepped into the outlet I was greeted by friendly staff at the takeaway counter. As I only had like RM25 in my wallet I can’t afford any pizza that cost more than that. As I was browsing through the menu and Eureka, I found a page that states RM17.50 for value meal. Unfortunately when the waiter told me that it was a promotion deal and only valid till 2.30pm, I was so disappointed. I then asked him whether he has any pizza that cost around RM20 and he flipped to the other page to me, pointing out the regular pan pizza priced at RM 24.00. It was obviously out of my budget so I asked again for any pizza that is less than RM 20.00( how very embarrassing…) I could have swear I caught a glimpse of him looking at me in a funny way…. He finally flipped to the other page and pointed out a value meal that cost only RM 21.40! “Comprende!” I would say…It comprise of 2 cokes, a basket of bread sticks, a salad and 1 regular pan pizza.

It puzzled me though as the value meal seems to be cheaper than just now what he pointed to me which cost RM24.00 for just one regular pizza. When I questioned him on this, he was stunned and didn’t know what to answer me. He took the easy way out and said he “don’t know” (our typical Malaysian answers) and said,” Whatever is printed there is there.” His answer blew me away. How can you not know what you are selling? Luckily his supervisor passed by and I asked him the same question. His supervisor was smart enough to answer me that the RM24.00 pizza is for 2 regular pizzas whereas the RM21.00 only has 1 regular pizza plus all the side orders. “Ohhh “ was my answer to him and I asked him why his staff couldn’t answer me this and he just shrugged and smile. Hmmm… and it makes you wonder how good of product training we give to our Malaysian’s workers. It is such a simple question about their products and they can’t even answer it.

I was then asked to wait for my pizza for 15 minutes (Please note, 15 MIN) and I ended up waiting for my pizza for 45 minutes! I was standing at the counter the whole 45 minutes observing what was going on in the kitchen with my pizza and others as well. First, there was confusion between the cook and the waiter in the order. They seem to mix up some delivery orders and apparently repeated a pizza that has already been delivered. Second, the pizza that came from the oven was bloated like a balloon. It looked really horrendous! The same guy who took my rejected it ordered him to make a new one. Imagine if he had not stopped the order, the cook was about to pack it in the box and deliver to the “unfortunate” ones.

However, one should not start opening a bottle of champagne and start celebrating his intelligence as the next pizza that came out from the oven was bloated too. To my surprise, he just packed it into the box and into the delivery bag! Hmmm…so guys and girls who is ordering Pizza Hut, you now know why your pizza looks horrible. Third scenario that I observed that got my pizza delayed was the movement of the kitchen staff was extremely slow. I felt as if I was trapped in one of the “John Woo’s” movies where the people are walking in slow-motion. The way they search for ingredients, the way they spread the ingredients on the dough and putting it in the oven was so slow that I swear I could do just strangle them upside down! The supervisor was no where to be seen.

Finally, when I got my pizza, this was how it looks like…. Comments anyone? D
